After two years away from the big show, I’m back at San Diego Comic-Con, one of the world’s biggest and craziest pop culture experiences. I won’t be stationed at a particular booth or table this time so I’ll be wandering the floor and socializing, but there are a bunch of signings and panels lined up, so here’s where you’ll definitely be able to find me during SDCC:
THURSDAY JULY 18th:

Comics is a medium full of diverse content and voices working on both company-owned characters and franchises, as well as original creations from the creators themselves. So, what is the real difference for the people behind the stories we love to read? Oni editor-in-chief Sarah Gaydos leads a panel of accomplished comics creators who have worked in both fields to discuss their experiences, recommendations, and how to craft the best story either way.

Comic-Con special guest Sam Sykes (Seven Blades in Black) will DM a bunch of authors playing an hour-long D&D session where everyone is a Bard and combat isn’t allowed. The bold adventurers include Chuck Wendig (Wanderers), Paul Krueger (Steel Crow Saga), Pierce Brown (Dark Age), E. K. Johnston (Star Wars: Queen’s Shadow), and Jim Zub (Monsters & Creatures; Warriors & Weapons).

Role-playing games of all genres and types are making a strong comeback, but did you know some of your favorite comic creators not only play these games but also create and run them? This panel of secret and not-so-secret role-playing comics creators includes Kieron Gillen (DIE, The Wicked + The Divine), Jim Zub (Stone Star, Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons), Spike Trotman (Delver, Iron Circus Comics), and M. K. Reed (Delver), who will discuss the mind-bending intersection between creating comics, diving into the make-believe world of RPGs, and how one creative world influences the other.
