• Graphic Policy: 7.5/10 “The various eras and settings work well together and the teams present each page in the dreamlike storytelling that’s presented. Travis Lanham‘s lettering stands out as so many characters have a unique voice when it comes to that and it all enhances the read.”

• Kabooooom!: 8/10 “Though the Howard purists may turn their noses up at it, this is a spirited team-up book that introduces new readers to Howard’s heroes wonderfully.”

• The Multiverse: 8/10 “The artwork is vividly detailed, with two teams handling different sections of the story. Vanesa R. Del Rey and Jean-Francois Beaulieu turn the sequences showing James Allison into vivid works of horror, reminiscent of the EC Comics of the early 1950s. The main section of the comic showing our heroes in action look more traditionally heroic but are no less skillfully brought to life by Scot Eaton, Scott Hanna and Frank D’Armata.”

• Paint Monk’s Library: 10/10 “Conan: Serpent War #1 is a crowning achievement and my favorite comic so far in Marvel’s re-acquisition of the Howard properties. By Crom, this is how one bloody does it. Future authors, take note.”

• The Pullbox: 10/10 “Zub goes all in to unite as crazy a selection of fictional heroes and anit-heroes as will ever be found on the page. He manages it, and I suppose I really shouldn’t be surprised.”

• Reading With a Flight Ring: “The interiors here are utterly marvellous to see. The linework is interesting and I like it because it has this throwback feel to it in a sense of what we saw in the 70’s, when coincidentally is also when Conan was published by Marvel.”

• Sidekick Weekly Pull: “I loved issue #1 of Conan: Serpent War…As a Moon Knight fan it satisfied my craving for canon and continuity and it sets up the crossover well.”

• Starships and Steel: 9/10 “I think the whole team has done a great job on this book right down to the Howard underpinnings across the whole thing. Using James Allison, a perhaps even MORE obscure character as the glue to hold this all together is pretty brilliant”

• Super Powered Fancast: 9.6/10 “Zub manages to craft a story that is both entertaining and engaging in how those things come to pass. I like the tone and pace of this issue. There is an immediacy to the story, but it doesn’t feel rushed.”
